![]() ![]() The maps are made from data collected by the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-EOS (AMSR-E) compared to historical data collected by a series of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites. A fire in the country’s northeast near Alexandroupolis produced a plume of smoke that stretched hundreds of miles southwest toward Italy. Regions for which no data were available are gray. A month after fires tore across parts of Greece in July 2023, dozens more fires ignited within 24 hours across the country in late August 2023. These are all the areas which have been affected by bushfires. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this image of smoke spreading across parts of British Columbia. Blue shows temperatures that were cooler than average, white shows near-average temperatures, and red shows where temperatures were warmer than average. Extreme heat, bouts of strong winds, and a prolonged drought are fueling large forest fires in western Canada and the United States. These maps compare temperatures in a given month to the long-term average temperature of that month from 1985 through 1997. An anomaly is a departure from average conditions. Sea surface temperature refers to the temperature of the top millimeter of the ocean. Orange pixels show as many as 10 fires, while red areas show as few as 1 fire per day. White pixels show the high end of the count - as many as 30 fires in a 1,000-square-kilometer area per day. The colors are based on a count of the number (not size) of fires observed within a 1,000-square-kilometer area. Color ranges from red where the fire count is low to yellow where number of fires is large. Each colored dot indicates a location where MODIS detected at least one fire during the compositing period. The fire maps show the locations of actively burning fires around the world on a monthly basis, based on observations from the MODIS sensors on NASA's Terra satellite. The NASA earth data fire map accumulates the locations of fires detected by moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the Terra and Aqua satellites over a 10-day period. The image shows bushfires were burning in fewer locations than what was marked in the misleading posts.June 2002 June 2002 July 2002 August 2002 September 2002 October 2002 November 2002 December 2002 January 2003 February 2003 March 2003 April 20 June 2003 July 2003 August 2003 September 2003 October 2003 November 2003 December 2003 January 2004 February 2004 March 2004 April 20 June 2004 July 2004 August 2004 September 2004 October 2004 November 2004 December 2004 January 2005 February 2005 March 2005 April 20 June 2005 July 2005 August 2005 September 2005 October 2005 November 2005 December 2005 January 2006 February 2006 March 2006 April 20 June 2006 July 2006 August 2006 September 2006 October 2006 November 2006 December 2006 January 2007 February 2007 March 2007 April 20 June 2007 July 2007 August 2007 September 2007 October 2007 November 2007 December 2007 January 2008 February 2008 March 2008 April 20 June 2008 July 2008 August 2008 September 2008 October 2008 November 2008 December 2008 January 2009 February 2009 March 2009 April 20 June 2009 July 2009 August 2009 September 2009 October 2009 November 2009 December 2009 January 2010 February 2010 March 2010 April 20 June 2010 July 2010 August 2010 September 2010 October 2010 November 2010 December 2010 January 2011 February 2011 March 2011 April 20 June 2011 July 2011 August 2011 September 2011 Using fire information mapped by satellite data from NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS), AFP found the misleading posts which shared the second map inflated the scope of the bushfires.ĪFP created an image that overlaid monthly fire maps for September, 2019, when the bushfires first erupted, as well as October, November, and December 2019. Most bushfires occurred in South Australia were around Adelaide."Ī reverse image search on Google also found the same map published here on a blog on Mawith a similar caption. ![]() As we can see from the picture, SA has much fewer bushfires than other states. Dolomite, dry powder for metal fires, dry sand, graphite, soda ash, and sodium chloride. The image's caption states: "The red markers in figure 2 show the areas burnt by bushfires from 1997 to 2008 (Summary of Major Bush Fires in Australia Since 1851 n.d.).
